The City of El Segundo's Cultural Arts Development Program is a robust public arts and culture program that creates vital public spaces and programing while fostering economic development and contributing to a vibrant community to live, work, and visit.
To date, the Cultural Development Program has worked with more than 36 partners for the Percent for Art Program and generated over $4 million for arts and culture in the City, including more than a dozen public artworks and year-round programming.
The El Segundo Cultural Development Program (CPD) was created to steward the Percent for Art funding which was implemented in 2019. The CDP works closely with the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, part of the City's official Committees, Commissions and Boards.
In November 2019, the El Segundo City Council adopted Ordinance 1594, establishing a "Public Art" or "In-Lieu Fee" requirement and a Cultural Development Fund. The requirement applies to certain commercial and industrial developments with a project cost exceeding $2,000,000. The ordinance gives developers the option of commissioning public artwork on-site equal to 1% of the project cost or paying one percent to the Cultural Development Fund in-lieu of commissioning artwork.
