The Recreation, Parks, and Library Department is proud to offer the community of El Segundo high-quality parks and recreation facilities, the El Segundo Library, community service programs, recreation classes, events and activities. The Department is versatile in its service delivery by providing vital public transportation in addition to offering valuable programs and enrichment opportunities for all ages and abilities. The dedicated workforce is composed of 21 full-time employees and more than 150 part-time and seasonal employees who are enthusiastic about enhancing the quality of life in El Segundo.
Administration Division
The Administration Division provides administrative support by managing the Department’s finance activities, including budget planning, contract management, and grants administration. The Division also provides oversight in open government procedures, identifies public needs and implements community problem-solving activities to ensure integrity in service delivery for the Recreation, Parks, and Library Department.
Aquatics Division
The Aquatics Division offers a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Through quality programming, the division provides residents with opportunities for swim instruction, water fitness, and recreational swimming at El Segundo’s aquatic facilities. The Aquatics Division is dedicated to ensuring public safety and promoting water confidence by maintaining high standards in programming and service. The Aquatics Division provides service at The El Segundo Wiseburn Unified School District Aquatics Center, Hilltop Pool, and the soon to be renovated Urho Saari Swim Stadium - also known as The Plunge.
Library Division
The El Segundo Public Library is a civic and cultural hub for information and innovation. We maintain comfortable, safe, and welcoming public and school libraries and connect people of all ages to information, experiences, art, and ideas to help them learn and be successful.
Parks & Facilities Division
The Parks & Facilities Division is responsible for developed park land that provides a wide variety of attractions and amenities including more than 15 parks, athletic fields, recreational water amenities, a skate park, dog park and community garden. The Parks Maintenance Division is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all city parks, open space, medians, recreational fields, parkway trees, the Downtown District, Imperial strip, Memory Row, Campus El Segundo, Camp Eucalyptus, Fire Stations and the City Hall Campus. Assisting our inhouse crews are contracted services for tree maintenance and landscape maintenance. This combination insures prompt response to requests, issues and related emergencies.
Recreation Division
The Recreation Division provides opportunities for El Segundo residents of all ages to participate in a multitude of classes, programs, events and transportation services throughout its parks, fields, and facilities. The Recreation Division works in cooperation with residents, community groups and other City departments to continue to allocate and deliver superior services in a professional, proactive and cost-effective manner.
