Location: Softball Field at Recreation Park 

League Fee: League fee is $355.00 per team. The league fee for non-resident teams is $426.00 per team.

Advanced/Intermediate: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Beginner/Intermediate*: Tuesday
*Additional days of the week may be added (if necessary)

Your team must meet one of the three criteria:

1. El Segundo Resident Team: Participants must be a resident of El Segundo with a valid Rec ID Card or have a Driver’s License/CA ID with a residential address. Teams must be comprised of at least seventy-five percent El Segundo residents to meet this criteria.
2. El Segundo Business Sponsored Team: Participants must be:

• An employee of the El Segundo company/business that is sponsoring your team. A letter from management must accompany your roster on company/business letterhead to verify employment or
• A resident of El Segundo with a valid Rec ID or have a Driver’s License/CA ID with a residential address. A maximum of four non-resident players may be included on an 18 person roster.

3. Non-Resident Team: If the maximum amount of teams isn't met for the league, then non-resident teams will be accepted to meet the league max

The deadline to add or drop players from your team’s roster is the mid-way point of the season. Teams may have a maximum of 18 players on their roster. An official add/drop form will be provided for use. These forms are included with your roster packet and can be e-mailed to you upon request.

Managers may request that the umpire validate a signed roster with a photo ID prior to start of game. If a protest is not filed with the umpire, one must be filed with the Sports Supervisor within 24 hours following game time accompanied by a $25 check. The Sports Supervisor will rule on any protest.

1. Any ball hit over the fence in fair territory by a male or female player will result in an automatic out. Runners may not advance
   .
2. Two (2) women must play on the infield at all times when 10 defensive players are on the field.
   
   
3. A team can play an official game without forfeiting with a minimum of 8 eligible players. Among those 8 players, the
   team must consist of either: 3 men and 5 women; 5 Men and 3 women; or 4 men and 4 women. In no case can there be more than 5 males on the field at the same time.
   
   
4. The Pitcher’s Box rule will be in effect for male batters only. Any ball hit in to the pitcher’s box area when a male player is batting will be an automatic dead ball out.
   
   
5. All hitters begin with a 1 & 1 count.
   
   
6. A maximum of six (6) run can be scored by a team each innings for innings 1 – 6. No max run rule for 7th inning. There is no mercy rule.
   
   
7. If a male walks on 3 straight pitches without a strike, he will be awarded 2 bases.
   
   
8. Courtesy runners will be allowed – male for male or female for female. The person making the last out will be designated as the courtesy runner. The number of courtesy runners will be agreed upon by both managers at the umpire’s pre-game meeting.
   
   
9. All plays at home will be a force out. The runner will be considered safe if any part of their body touches or passes the home plate line before defensive player touches the plate while in possession of the ball. Runners cannot touch home plate at any time. Runners cannot be tagged out at home at any time.
   
   
10. Any player crossing the commitment line on 3rd base line between 3rd base and home plate will not be allowed to return to 3rd base. Runners will be called out if they attempt to return to 3rd base after crossing the commitment line.
    
    
11. Any player ejected from a game will automatically be suspended for the next game. NO EXCEPTIONS! Any physical contact with an Umpire will result in an automatic ejection for that game and exclusion for the remainder of the season. The excluded player must request special permission, in writing, from the Sports Supervisor to be reinstated for the following season.
    
    
12. All players must be at least 18 years old. If it is discovered that a minor has played on a team, the team will forfeit all games in which the minor has played.
    
    
13. Players must slide or avoid a collision with other players at all times.
    
    
14. All rules not stated here will be at the discretion of the umpire. If a team is found to be in violation of these rules, the offending player will be ejected from the game and a one (1) game suspension will be assessed. The batted ball will be ruled an out and any base runners must return to their original position on the base paths. Banned/Illegal bat issues cannot be protested. It is the responsibility of team managers to notify the officials if there is a bat in question.
    
    
15. A new inning cannot begin with 2 minutes or less of game time remaining. This is to be monitored and determined by the umpire and/or scorekeeper.
    
    
16. No metal cleats

Fighting is an automatic indefinite suspension for every player involved and this cannot be appealed. Teams involved in a fight will also be suspended indefinitely until the Sports Supervisor makes a decision on the severity of the suspension.

The City of El Segundo Adult Coed Softball League uses the SCMAF rulebook, except where overridden by City of El Segundo Supplemental Rules. Supplemental rules are listed on the back of this page. Managers are responsible for knowing all rules and communicating them to their players.

The contractor for umpiring services is A to Z Officiating. City Staff will be assigned to umpire in case of emergency. Umpires contracted through A to Z Officiating do not work for the City of El Segundo. All umpire complaints should be directed to the Sports Supervisor. Umpires fees are $20 per team per game due prior to game time.

Forfeit time is 10 minutes after scheduled game time. Teams not able to field eight eligible players by that time will forfeit. The forfeiting team is required to pay umpire fees for both teams ($40 total). This should be done at the game site if possible, or paid at the Joslyn Center within one (1) week of the forfeited game. If a team knows in advance that they will not have enough players to play the game, they should notify Recreation Specialist Tyler Fujii at least 24 hours prior to the game day. Teams giving at least 24 hours' notice of intention to forfeit will not have to pay umpire fees.

SCMAF Players Medical Benefit Fund is available for all teams that wish to participate in the league at a cost of $44. This benefit provides medical insurance for those listed on the team roster. Application forms and eligibility requirement flyers are available at Checkout. Completed application and fee is due at the time of league fee payment.

We will follow the ASA 2004 bat standards. A banned/illegal bat list is available upon request. Any bat that has the 2004 certification mark that does not appear on this list is legal for use in this league provided that it has not been doctored or altered.
